CARDIOLOGY
Chester Basin Animal Hospital is pleased to be able to host Dr. Jeremy Orr from East Coast Veterinary Cardiology for regular cardiology clinics. Dr. Orr is a Board Certified Veterinary Cardiologist who provides mobile veterinary cardiology services to pet patients in Nova Scotia.
It is currently estimated that between 10-20% of the dog and cat population suffer from underlying heart disease. Signs of heart disease might include coughing, increased respiratory rate or labored breathing, exercise intolerance, fainting, or abdominal distension. Heart disease affects both quality and length of life for pet patients. Early detection and treatment can help our pets live longer, happier lives.
Your regular veterinarian may recommend your pet be assessed by a cardiologist after detection of a heart murmur or arrythmia at a routine check up, or when chest x-rays have confirmed evidence of heart disease.
A consultation with Dr. Orr will include an examination and thoracic auscultation, as well as blood pressure measurement, ECG and cardiac ultrasound or placement of a Holter monitor, where indicated. Once a diagnosis is made, Dr. Orr may prescribe medications and recommend certain lifestyle changes.
