Therapeutic laser, also known as low level laser therapy, cold laser or Class IV Laser Therapy, is a non-invasive treatment that uses light to stimulate cell regeneration and promote circulation of blood. Therapeutic laser is still a relatively new concept in veterinary medicine, but it is being increasingly utilized to treat a variety of conditions in dogs and cats.
Therapeutic laser can be used to treat both acute and chronic conditions from sprains and strains to chronic osteoarthritis and disc disease. Laser therapy is also proving to be very beneficial in accelerating the healing of surgical incisions.
Before electing laser therapy for a pet, a complete physical examination should be performed, and in some cases, x-rays taken, to ensure laser therapy is appropriate.
The following is a list of examples where therapeutic laser may be beneficial:
-Arthritis (hips, knees, shoulders, elbows, toes, etc)
-Intervertebral Disc Disease
-Sprains and Strains
-Ear Infections (Otitis Externa)
-Spay and Neuter Incisions
